MOONBIKES BATTERY – SAFETY & MAINTENANCE GUIDE

MOONBIKES BATTERY – SAFETY & MAINTENANCE GUIDE

(72 V – 35 Ah & 45 Ah Lithium-ion batteries)

Important Notice
This document is a quick reference guide for MoonBikes battery usage and safety. It is provided in addition to the Owner’s Manual and official Safety Documentation, and does not replace them. Always read the complete documentation carefully before using your battery or operating your MoonBike. Improper handling may result in damage, malfunction, or serious injury.

If you have any doubts or questions, contact MoonBikes Support before use.

MoonBikes batteries are safe and reliable when properly used.
Follow these rules to ensure safety, performance, and long lifespan.

DAILY USE

  • Avoid direct sunlight and high humidity. Never expose to water, snow, rain.
  • Avoid any shock, fall, crushing.
  • Always ensure that the retaining strap is properly tightened in the MoonBikes battery box, and that the box is closed, locked, sealed, and dry.
  • Do not disassemble, puncture, crush or short circuit. Do not open the battery.

CHARGING

  • Be careful not to let the battery run down completely to avoid damaging it.
  • Use only the official MoonBikes charger.
  • Charge in a dry, ventilated, non-flammable area, equipped with a smoke detector.

Never charge a damaged, deformed or punctured battery, or in case of abnormal behaviour (see warning below)

  • Never charge unattended.
  • Never cover the battery or charger during charge.
  • A battery should not be connected to a charger if it is not connected to the outlet.          Never connect a charger to a multiple outlet simultaneously with other devices or chargers. There is a real risk of the plug overheating and consequently of fire. Do not leave a charger connected to the mains unnecessarily.
  • Temperature limits:
    • Operation : –25 °C to +40 °C ( –13°F to 104°F)
    • Charging : 10 °C to 20 °C (50°F to 68°F)
    • Storage : 5 °C to +20 °C (41°F to 68°F)

Never charge a battery if it has been out of the battery box for more than 15 minutes at a temperature below 50°F. Please let it warm up by itself in a dry place at more than 50°F or let it warm up in the battery box for a few hours by turning the ignition key to ON.

STOP USING IMMEDIATELY, NEVER CHARGE AND ISOLATE THE BATTERY IF:

  • The battery has fallen or suffered any impact.
  • Water or condensation
has entered or touched the casing.
  • Exposed to temperatures above 60 °C (140°F).
  • Sudden loss of range
     or abnormally long/incomplete charge.
  • Battery remains warm for hours after charging.
  • Unexpected cut-off
     despite sufficient charge.
  • Any smell, noise, bulging, deformation, or melted plastic.
  • Loose screws, worn handle, or missing plastic protectors.
  • The charge or discharged connectors have been short-circuited.

In all cases, isolate immediately (preferably outdoors) and contact ENVO, B-Volt or a battery specialist.

HANDLING & TRANSPORT

  • Use the handle only to insert/remove the battery from the MoonBikes Battery Box.
  • Carry with both hands underneath the case.
  • Keep connectors clear of metal objects to avoid short circuits.
  • Never transport near flammable materials.

RANGE

Always plan your trip based on safe return margins — never go further than you’re comfortable walking back in case of battery depletion. Avoid heading out alone without informing someone of your route, and always carry a charged phone. MoonBikes are designed for fun and exploration, but cold weather and remote areas can quickly become dangerous without proper precautions.

SEASONAL STORAGE

  • Store in a cool, dry, ventilated area, out of sunlight.
  • For long-term storage:
    • Charge between 30 % and 60 %.
    • Check voltage every 2 months and charge if necessary.
    • Never let your battery plugged to the MoonBikes or to the charger before storage.
    • Never store fully discharged.

ANNUAL MAINTENANCE CHECK

Performed by an authorized ENVO / BVolt  service center.

Frequency : Once per year minimum, or every 6 months for intensive use.
Keep written proof (date, signature, serial n°).

External check

  • No visible cracks, dents, loosened screws, or deformation.
  • Handle firm, screws tight.
  • 4 plastic corner protectors
     present and secure.
  • Connectors clean, free from oxidation or burn marks.
  • No leak, smell, or overheating marks.

 Internal inspection (authorized technician only)

  • No deformed cells or damaged supports.
  • Cells holders in good condition.
  • BMS harness not twisted, pinched, or worn.
  • Cells insulating film intact.
  • No debris or corrosion.

3️ Electrical tests (BVolt references)

  • Full-charge voltage : >83.8 V  (ideal 84.0 V).
  • Full-discharge voltage : < 61 V (ideal 59 V).
  • Capacity

Standard battery : >
32.2 Ah (ideal 33.8Ah).

Performance battery : > 43.2 Ah (ideal 44.2 Ah).

  • Verify fuse continuity.
  • BMS and cell balancing check.

4️ Reassembly

  • Apply sealant on main screws for waterproofing.
  • Recharge to 30 – 60 % for storage.
  • Sign and log inspection in the maintenance sheet.

IN CASE OF INCIDENT

  • Disconnect immediately and move to a safe area (preferably outdoors).
  • Suitable extinguishing media in case of fire:

Utilize a Halon, Halon replacement or water fire extinguisher to prevent the spread of the fire to adjacent battery cells and materials. Pour water, or other nonalcoholic liquid, from any available source over the cells immediately after knockdown or extinguishment of the fire.

Refer to MSDS (link below) for more information.

After any incident, do not reuse before professional inspection.
